Disabled Friendly 2 Bedroom Apartment Fuerteventura  (Also ideal for the elderly or infirm)

It is is very difficult to cater for everyone's needs when mentioning disabled friendly holidays in the Sun. However with one of the owners of this apartment having a daughter that has cerebral palsy we decided that we would try and make the apartment that we bought as disabled friendly or at the very least wheel chair accessible that we could not only afford, but also utilize the space that we had. Remember we have not had this apartment purpose built we have adapted it for the disabled for those holidaying in Fuerteventura!

So what have we done to the apartment to try and make holidays for those visiting Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands that are disabled persons that much easier?

Well first of all in the buying process we checked the access out to ensure that it would be as smooth a transition when transferring from the street to the apartment. There are no steps from the street, there is a small ramp from the car park to the Oasis Royal Complex and then a flat path straight to the front door of the apartment.   

When in the Apartment the access to all rooms is easily managed with a wheel chair.

The hardest to adapt for a person with a disability was the bathroom. Due to the limited space (but to be fair it was one of the largest bathrooms of any apartment we had viewed!) we had to see how we could try and make life easier for disabled people and there carer. First thing we did was rip the bath out to ensure we had maximum space to work with.

We then retiled the bathroom, floor to ceiling and turned the bath area into a walk in / wet room effect. To help with the flow of water we have put a 25mm lip to stop the bathroom flooding (please bear this in mind). There are a few grab rails dotted about the apartment to help steady ones self. A removable shower shower chair is available at no extra charge. 

If you have been to Corralejo before you will see below it is looking a bit different!! The Photograph below shows the first completed section (dated August 2011) of Corralejo high street. It is having a make over to ensure it is pedestrian friendly including easier for kiddies push chairs and wheel chairs.

Knowing many Apartments and Villas in Fuerteventura that advertise that they are "disabled friendly" or "wheel chair friendly" when in reality; they are miles out of town and have not lifted a finger to help in adapting the apartment or Villa you will be staying in. We hope that you will not find that the case with us!

Our Apartment is ideally located just off the High street so a quick stroll or wheel chair roll takes you to the heart of Corralejo.

We realise that some book holidays that need a lot more adaption's than we can provide due to space and money but we do hope that we have provided enough information for you to decide if this 2 bedroom luxury apartment suitable for the disabled is adapted enough for your needs.

We understand some of the problems in trying to choose a destination for those with a disability and especially trying to find a resort that is not full of hills.

Corralejo is not full of hills which makes it ideal for those on holiday that use a wheelchair. There are not that many resorts in Europe and in fact not many even in the Canary Islands that can claim to be wheel chair friendly as much as Corralejo can.

One thing to watch out for when visiting bars or restaurants' is where the toilets are? Not all but some of these places, have there toilets downstairs that can be inaccessible to wheel chair users. On the whole most establishments are okay.
